Know your candidate in Delhi before voting tomorrow

New Delhi: Delhiites will vote on Thursday to elect their seven representatives for the 16th Lok Sabha. With the emergence of the Aam Aadmi Party (Aap) last year, the voters here perhaps first time will witness a triangular fight on all the seven Lok Sabha seats between CongressBjp and AAP.

As many as 150 candidates, including Kapil Sibal (Congress), Harsh Vardhan (BJP), Rajmohan Gandhi (AAP), Manoj Tiwari (BJP), Ajay Maken (Congress) and Rakhi Bidlan (AAP), are in the poll fray.

Out of 150 candidates, 23 have criminal cases while 49 are crorepatis. With assets worth Rs. 114 crore, Congress' Kapil Sibal, who is contesting from Chandni Chowk seat, is the richest candidate. Rakhi Bidlan, who is contesting from North West Delhi seat on the AAP ticket, is the poorest as she has declared assets worth Rs. 1 lakh.

While New Delhi Lok Sabha seat has the highest number of candidates (29), North West Delhi (SC reserved seat) has the lowest number of candidates (14). In a step aimed to increase voter's turnout in April 10 polls, Delhi Election Commission is sending SMS to voters exhorting them to cast their votes.

"Delhi goes to polls on 10th April 2014 (7 AM to 6 PM)! Don't forget to exercise your right - CEO Delhi," read the text message sent through SMS to Delhi's residents on Monday. This new initiative is a part of series of awareness programmes being carried out by the Office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to increase voting percentage in the Lok Sabha elections. Over 1.2 crore voters including over 70 lakh men and 56.5 lakh women will exercise their franchise on April 10 for seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi.  Have a look at the candidates of the three political parties of your constituency:
