Lok Shakti Abhijan Extends Total Support to Aam Admi Party in Odisha

Press Release
Lok Shakti Abhijan Extends Total Support to Aam Admi Party in Odisha
            January 27, 2014
Bhubaneswar: Jan 27- The leading social activist of Odisha and President, Lok Shakti Abhiyan who also leads National Alliance of Peoples Movements (NAPM) at national level as one of the conveners Sri Prafulla Samanara declared today his support for the Aam Admi Party (AAP) if they wish to fight the coming election to provide a political alternative to the corrupt ruling regime in Odisha. Sri Samantara, who for the last 4 decades has been working on critical issues concerning the common men –The Aam Admi particularly in areas such as forcible displacement, ecological destructiuon, unethical exploitation of natural resources, deprivation from livelihood systems, communalism, caste and gender discrimination, land grabbing etc finds the success that AAP achieved in Delhi to be inspiring and encouraging though the new party is not experienced enough in the complex political situation of the country caused by a combination of capital and market forces.

While scams rule the union government in Delhi, here in Odisha the BJD government has become the synonym of scams- worth trillions of rupees. The opposition Congress and BJP are working as B teams of BJD as there seem to be an undeclared consensus among them on anti-people policies. The people of Odisha need a proper political alternative which has been created now because of the AAP’s electoral success and government formation in Delhi, says Samantara. We need to spread this new hope and strengthen it further. Therefore, ‘I have decided to extend total support to AAP in Odisha and sincerely hope that they and all such pro-people forces in Odisha will work on the following issues from the perspectives of the common men who have suffered a lot in the past’, says Samantara.

He hopes that the long and outstanding issues such as forcible displacement, unending exploitation of natural resources, ecological devastations, and loss of natural resource based livelihoods, unemployment, mindless mining, marketization of education and health, torture and exploitation of tribals, dalits and women, repression in people’s movement’s areas etc will be sincerely taken up by AAP in Odisha. The NAPM had earlier declared its support for the AAP. Sri Samantara hopes that the new political formation will work for developing a pro-people eco-friendly development alternative which will neither harm nature nor the humans. He will extend all support for strengthening democracy in the state, said Samantara.
