Marie Yovanovitch blasts Trump allies’ ‘storm of lies and conspiracies’ in scathing Washington Post op-ed

NB: There are still (fortunately) many Indian officials who want to stand by their oaths to uphold the Constitution and for their own dignity. But they are still too few. The onslaught on the rule of law in India and the hate-mongering on full display is too brutal for us to keep silent. Let us hope people all over the world take heart from persons such as this former American diplomat. DS

Marie Yovanovitch, the former American ambassador to Ukraine who announced her retirement last month after being subjected to a smear campaign on behalf of President Donald Trump’s allies, has written a scathing editorial for the Washington Post that raises fears about the future of American democracy. In the op-ed, Yovanovitch describes her dismay at being ousted from her post after Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and his henchman Lev Parnas worked to spread false stories about her work to destroy her reputation.

“I have seen dictatorships around the world, where blind obedience is the norm and truth-tellers are threatened with punishment or death,” she writes. “We must not allow the United States to become a country where standing up to our government is a dangerous act. It has been shocking to experience the storm of criticism, lies and malicious conspiracies that have preceded and followed my public testimony.” Yovanovitch also warns of the danger of pushing out career civil servants with consciences and replacing them with Trump loyalists.

“Our public servants need responsible and ethical political leadership,” she writes. “This administration, through acts of omission and commission, has undermined our democratic institutions, making the public question the truth and leaving public servants without the support and example of ethical behavior that they need to do their jobs and advance U.S. interests.”... read more:

History Archive: Communist Party of India's resolution on Pakistan and National Unity, September 1942

Pakistan and National Unity is an important position paper of the Communist Party of India, and a far-reaching text in the history of the Indian communist movement. The resolution dated September 19, 1942 contains an outline of the CPI's support for what it called the 'just essence of the Pakistan demand'; and the Report by Gangadhar Adhikari is a detailed explanation of the resolution. The resolution was confirmed by the First Congress of the CPI in May 1943.  Its arguments may be contrasted with the pamphlet titled Who Rules Pakistan? published in Bombay in August 1948, as a 'Communist Party publication' - and is one of the earliest position documents of the Communist Party of Pakistan.  The document is titled File CPI-31/1942 ; and forms part of the P.C.
