This annual contest recognizes photos of some of the world's most historic spots. Click through to see the rest of 2021's acclaimed images. Entries were judged on "originality, composition and technical proficiency" as well as the context of the image and the story behind it.

The year's overall winner was Steve Liddiard's image of Wales' Whiteford Lighthouse.
