Muslim Teacher In Bihar Thrashed For Not Saying 'Vande Mataram' On Republic Day

A Muslim teacher in Bihar’s Katihar was thrashed because he refused to say ‘Vande Mataram’ after a flag hoisting ceremony on Republic Day. A video of the incident, went viral on social media on Wednesday.  Afzal Hussain told ANI that it was against his belief “to worship Bharat” and said that even the Constitution did not require citizens to say ‘vande Mataram’. 

Katihar:Scuffle broke out when a primary school teacher Afzal Hussain refused to sing 'Vande Mataram' on Jan 26;Hussain says,"We worship Allah & Vande Mataram means 'vandana'(worship) of Bharat which is against our belief.Constitution doesn't say it's necessary to sing it".#Bihar
Hussain said he could have lost his life because of the incident.  ANI reported that District Education Officer Dinesh Chandra Dev has said he did not receive any complaints about the incident. 

“Had we got any such information, an investigation would have been done. But till now we have not got any such complaint,” the ANI report quoted Dev as saying.  ..
